“Ask for what you want, and be prepared to get it.” – Maya Angelou
Let me ask you a question: do you know what you want? Have you asked the Universe for it? Are you prepared to get it?
Asking for what you want is not a selfish endeavor, assuming that your wish doesn’t negatively impact someone else. So don’t ask for something bad to happen to another person. Ever heard of Karma? If you believe in the Law of Abundance, then getting what you want doesn’t mean that someone else has to give up something. There is more than enough to go around.
I also believe that if you don’t know what you want, you’re going to struggle with motivation. How can you move forward if you don’t know where you’re going? How can the Universe deliver to you something that doesn’t even exist? If you don’t know what you want, how is God, or the Universe, or your family, or anyone for that matter, supposed to help you achieve it?
You must get clear about what you want. Otherwise, you will float through life aimlessly. Like a car without a steering wheel. A ship without a rudder.
I often hear people who say they prefer to “go with the flow.” The only things I know that actually go with the flow are trash and dead fish. Don’t let the outside world dictate to you what your life is going to be. Decide what you want, commit to making it happen and figure out the next step.
You either own your life, or your life owns you.
One word of caution, however: you need to be careful what you ask for, because you might just get it.
What are your thoughts on this quote? Do you believe you can have anything you want? Are you prepared to get it?
This week’s call to action is for you to figure out what you want. I’m not just talking about material things here, I’m talking what you really want out of life.
Set aside time this week to clear your mind and do some soul searching. Put it on your calendar, find a quiet place, get away from your phone, and have a heart-to-heart talk with yourself. Close your eyes and picture yourself living your dream life. How are you spending your days?
Ask yourself, “What do I really want out of life?” What kind of impact do I want to make on the world? Who do I want to spend time with? What really matters to me?
You know I’ve never been to a funeral where the friends and family of the deceased talked about how big their house was, how fast their car was, or how many pairs of shoes they owned. Those things don’t leave a lasting impact on people.
What do you want people to say about you when you’re gone? Now I know that’s a little morbid to think about, but if you can answer that question, you can start to reverse engineer your life. How far away are you from being that person, and how can you start bridging that gap? What do you need to change so that your life will become more impactful?
Spend some time this week figuring out what you really want out of life. Ask yourself some tough questions, like:
- What do I want my life to look like in 5 years?
- What would I need to do to make that happen?
- What is the next step I need to take?
- When am I going to take that step?
If you already have your wish list written down, take time to go back over it. If it’s been awhile since you put the list together, have you already received any of the things on your list? If so, congratulations, go ahead and take them off the list. What are some new things you can add to your list?
Remember, if you dream big, you can make an impact, and you can lead a full life.
