Conceive, Believe, Achieve: Your Success Formula

This week’s quote comes from the book “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, who wrote, “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”

The basic notion is that you can achieve whatever you set your mind to.

This is a simple, but extremely powerful statement.

Think about it:  WHATEVER you can dream up, if you BELIEVE it, you can ACHIEVE it.

Successful people spend a great deal of time thinking about the future.  They believe in their ability to create the life they want, and they work consistently to achieve it.

Unsuccessful people, on the other hand, don’t spend a whole lot of time thinking and conceiving.  It’s all they can do to get through the day or make it to the weekend.

If you aren’t a fan of the words successful and unsuccessful, feel free to substitute happy and unhappy, fulfilled and unfulfilled, driven and unfocused, progressing and stuck.

Most people are pretty good at the conceiving part. It’s the believing part where everything breaks down. We typically have no problem thinking and dreaming. In fact, if you’ve never dreamed about what you would do if you won the lottery, you’re in the minority. So conceiving of a better future is not the problem.

Where most of us struggle is in believing we can make it happen. Whether it’s our own doubt we create from within or an external source that destroys our confidence, we struggle to believe we can live out those dreams. Without that firm belief, the ability to achieve disappears. I have never heard of someone who accomplished anything worthwhile despite the fact that they were convinced they couldn’t do it.

This week, pay attention to your thoughts as they relate to your future.

Now it may seem weird for me to ask you to think about your thinking, but when was the last time you sat quietly by yourself and paid attention to your thoughts?  Unless you practice meditation or journaling regularly, I’ll bet it’s been a while. (Note to self: meditate and journal more.)

Your heart may be the engine of your body, but your brain, and the thoughts that pass through it, are the steering wheel.

What direction are your thoughts steering you?  They’re either taking you toward what you want, keeping you stuck in the same place, or moving you away from what you truly want your life to be.

What are you telling yourself about the future?

Do you have a clear picture of what you want out of life?

Do you have a vision and a plan to create that life?

Do you believe in your ability to achieve the life of your dreams?

I want you to find some time this week to get away from the computer, put down your phone, and do some intentional thinking!

Do you have a dream that you believe you can achieve? If not, I hope this quote inspires you to think about what you can accomplish.

Remember, if you can conceive it and believe, you CAN achieve it!

If you like this quote, write it down, carry it with you, or post it somewhere visible so you can refer to it as you go throughout your week.

Does it inspire or motivate you?  How can you use the words of Napoleon Hill to make an impact in your life?
